Coimbatore Police Achieves Remarkable Reduction in Crime Rates: Police Commissioner Balakrishnan

Only 22 serious crimes such as murder were reported this year. Attempted murder cases saw a 45% decrease. Assault cases showed a 37% reduction and robbery cases saw a 58 percent decline.

Coimbatore: In a comprehensive press conference at the Coimbatore Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s office, Commissioner Mr. Balakrishnan delivered an insightful address on the city’s declining crime rates. Emphasizing the effectiveness of the police force’s strategies, he presented a comparison with the previous year’s statistics.

The Commissioner proudly announced a major achievement - the absence of any for-profit murder cases in the city this year. This milestone marks a significant improvement in public safety. Additionally, joint theft cases have seen a dramatic reduction, dropping from eleven incidents last year to just three this year. Notably, all suspects involved in these cases have been apprehended.

Mr. Balakrishnan highlighted the substantial decrease in robbery cases, showing a 58% reduction from the previous year. He credited this success to the proactive and preventive measures undertaken by the police force, including the effective deployment of intelligence and surveillance technology.

Furthermore, serious crimes such as murder have significantly decreased, with only 22 cases reported this year. Attempted murder cases also saw a notable decline, with a 45% decrease leading to only 35 cases. Assault cases causing harm showed a 37% reduction, falling from 517 incidents last year to 324 this year.

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of community involvement in enhancing public safety. The “Our Coimbatore, Our Safety” initiative, encouraging the installation of CCTV cameras by local businesses and residents, has played a crucial role in this achievement. Moreover, intensifying patrol activities in ‘Hot Spot’ areas known for frequent disturbances has further aided in reducing crime rates.

Concluding his address, Commissioner Balakrishnan reaffirmed the Coimbatore Police Department’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the city. He underscored the department’s dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens through vigilant policing, community cooperation, and the use of advanced technological measures.
