Coimbatore Ranks as Third Highest Revenue Earner in Southern Railways

Coimbatore emerges as a vital railway hub, positioned as the third highest revenue-generating station in the Southern Railway network, with Chennai Central and Egmore leading.

Coimbatore: The bustling city of Coimbatore has clinched the third spot in revenue generation within the Southern Railway network that includes Tamil Nadu and Kerala, trailing behind the Chennai Central and Egmore stations.

The Coimbatore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has put forth proposals to the railway authorities to capitalize on the existing infrastructure for further enhancements. These proposals include:

1. Developing a circular rail network in Coimbatore using the current rail infrastructure to substantially reduce traffic congestion.

2. Expanding suburban connectivity with regular MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) trains covering a 40 km radius to nearby regions such as Mettupalayam, Pollachi, and Tirupur.

3. Intensifying daily train services from Salem and Dindigul, which are 160 km away, to aid commuters. These routes, already long in operation, are slated for rejuvenation to better serve the daily influx of passengers.

These initiatives are part of an extensive effort to improve the transportation landscape of Coimbatore, aiming to enhance the overall commuter experience and contribute to the region's economic development.
