Coimbatore:
The 28th-anniversary celebrations of the Coimbatore Municipal Contractor’s Welfare Association were held at the Codissia hall. The event was attended by the association's President Udhayakumar, Secretary KCP Chandraprakash, Treasurer Ammasaiyappan, Vice President Raja Gopal, Deputy Secretary Michael, among others. Actor Satish graced the event as a special guest.
The association has committed to constructing a marriage hall within a year, costing 2 crores, to be rented out to the public and the poor at minimal rates. Currently, the contractors’ registration is renewed annually, and there have been requests to follow the Public Works Department's practice of triennial renewal, which will be implemented by the municipality from this year.
The municipality has also permitted the planting of approximately 5,000 saplings in parks across 100 wards. Moreover, free eye and dental check-up camps for students of municipal schools have been approved, with around 90 schools to conduct these camps this year. The members have been provided with accident insurance worth 10 lakhs, and from this year onwards, the medical insurance will be increased to 25 lakhs.
A resolution was made to ensure that all contractors have equal work opportunities through a tender process. The members are involved in projects across various government sectors, amounting to 1500 crores, with plans to increase this to 2500 crores over the next three years. The event concluded with cultural performances including singing, dancing, and art shows.
Association President Udhayakumar addressed the gathering, with other administrative members present.
