'We are not responsible if the children miss their mid day meals' say protesting Anganwadi staff.

The Anganwadi staff are on strike for the second consecutive day. Close to 300 employees staged a sit-in-protest in the Collectorate claiming their pleas as 'long-pending'.

The protesting employees have apprised that they would work against the ruling TN government during the RK Nagar and local body elections, if the government continues to be irresponsive to their pleas.

Regularised monthly remuneration and retirement benefits are some of the demands put-forth by the Tamil Nadu Anganwadi employees association. A state-wide strike in this regard is on urging the Government to fulfil their requirements.

Speaking on this Coimbatore District Anganwadi President, Innasimuthu stated that, 'Taking into consideration,. the children who are dependent on the noon meals, our staff are still executing their duties and taking part in the protests.  But, if the government fails to respond to our genuine pleas, we would intensify our protests by boycotting work.  Under such circumstances,  the government should take up the responsibility  of children who suffer due to lack of mid-day meals'.

All the 300 employees were arrested for staging protest by blocking the roads at the Collectorate.
