Water Released for Irrigation from Aliyar Dam Benefiting Anaimalai Region in Coimbatore

Following heavy rains, water has been released from the Aliyar Dam for irrigation purposes, benefiting 6400 acres of farmland in the Anaimalai region near Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: In a significant move for agricultural prosperity, the Aliyar Dam, located near Pollachi, close to Anaimalai hills, has started releasing water for irrigation in the Old Ayacut area. This decision comes in response to the farmers' demand and recent heavy rains that increased the water inflow to the dam.

Farmers and Tamil Nadu Government officials have welcomed this initiative. The water release, which began today, was celebrated with farmers and officials showering flowers, marking the occasion as a momentous one for agriculture in the region.

As per the plan, for the next 60 days, starting from January 10th to March 10th, a controlled release of water will be maintained. A total of 350 million cubic feet of water will be released, with a daily discharge of 125 cubic feet, adjusted according to the irrigation needs.

This water release will benefit around 6400 acres of farmland in the Anaimalai area, including Pallivilangal, Karapatti, Ariyapuram, Periyani, and Vadakkalur, through the Old Ayacut irrigation canal. This initiative is crucial for the cultivation and agricultural activities in the region, ensuring a steady water supply for the farmlands.
