Meat Shops to Remain Closed in Coimbatore on Thiruvalluvar and Vallalar Days

Coimbatore City Corporation has announced the closure of meat shops on Thiruvalluvar Day (16.01.2024) and Vallalar Day (25.01.2024) as part of the state government's directive.

Coimbatore: In observance of the upcoming Thiruvalluvar Day on 16.01.2024 and Vallalar Day on 25.01.2024, the Coimbatore City Corporation has announced that all meat shops, including those selling goat, cow, chicken, and pork, under its jurisdiction will remain closed. This decision is in line with the Tamil Nadu state government's ban on slaughtering and selling meat on these specific days. The Corporation Commissioner, Sivaguru Prabhakaran I.A.S., informed that the directive applies to all areas within the Coimbatore Corporation including the slaughterhouses at Ukkadam, Sathy Road, Pothanur, and the city-managed meat shops in Thudiyalur.

The announcement underlines the importance of these cultural days and the need to respect the sentiments associated with them. The Corporation has warned that legal action will be taken against those who fail to comply with this order.

The decision aims to honor the philosophical and ethical values represented by Thiruvalluvar and Vallalar, reflecting the cultural significance of these days in Tamil Nadu. Residents are advised to plan accordingly for these observances.

Further, the Corporation emphasizes that this temporary closure of meat shops is a measure to uphold the cultural and traditional values of the community and ensure the peaceful observance of Thiruvalluvar and Vallalar Days in Coimbatore.
