Ban on Liquor Shops in Coimbatore on Pongal and Other Key Dates

Coimbatore's District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati announced a ban on TASMAC liquor shops during Pongal, Thiruvalluvar Day, Vallalar Memorial Day, and Thaipusam.


Coimbatore: With Pongal celebrations set to commence across Tamil Nadu on January 15th, followed by Mattu Pongal on January 16th and Kaanum Pongal on January 17th, Coimbatore is gearing up for the festive season. In light of these celebrations, District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has announced that TASMAC liquor shops in Coimbatore will remain closed on these key dates.

In addition, January 16th also marks Thiruvalluvar Day, further reinforcing the decision to shut down the liquor outlets. The ban is also extended to January 25th, observed as Vallalar Memorial Day, and on Thaipusam. This move comes as part of the district administration's efforts to ensure a safe and peaceful festive environment in Coimbatore during this period. The residents are advised to plan accordingly, and the administration seeks cooperation from all quarters to maintain decorum and public order during these significant cultural events.
