In a significant display of interfaith harmony, Hindus, Muslims, and Christians in Coimbatore joined together to celebrate the Samathuva Pongal Festival at the Perur Adheenam premises.
Coimbatore: The Samathuva Pongal Festival, symbolizing religious unity and harmony, was celebrated by Hindus, Muslims, and Christians at the Perur Adheenam premises in Coimbatore. Organized by the Tamil Nadu Interfaith Goodwill Movement, this event has become a hallmark of communal harmony, celebrated annually for the past fifteen years. The festival, held during the Tamil harvest festival Pongal, was led by Mohammad Rafiq of the Interfaith Goodwill Movement. Perur Adheenam's Maruthachala Adigalar, along with religious leaders from the Christian and Islamic communities, participated in the festivities. The celebration started at Perur Tamil College with the traditional Pongal pot ceremony, where leaders from all faiths joyously exclaimed "Pongal O Pongal". The event also included a Uriyadi (pot-breaking) competition, engaging college students and community members, reflecting the spirit of unity and celebration.
