Police Deny Permission for Two-Wheeler Pilgrimage to Ayodhya Ram Temple from Coimbatore

Coimbatore police deny permission for a 2500 km two-wheeler pilgrimage to Ayodhya Ram Temple, citing security concerns.

Coimbatore: In a recent development, Coimbatore police have denied permission for a two-wheeler pilgrimage to the Ayodhya Ram Temple. The journey, intended to cover approximately 2500 kilometers, was planned by Induja Kanchi, the Deputy District Head of the BJP Hospitality Committee in Coimbatore. The pilgrimage was scheduled to commence from a Ram Temple in Coimbatore's Ramnagar area to the Ayodhya Ram Temple, coinciding with the temple's Kumbhabhishekam ceremony on the upcoming 22nd.

However, the police stationed at the temple premises objected to this plan, stating that permission for such a journey on a two-wheeler was not granted. Induja Kanchi expressed her discontent, questioning the government's policy, drawing parallels to the permissions granted to Christians and Muslims for pilgrimages to Jerusalem and Mecca, respectively.

The police clarified that the journey could be considered upon receiving an official permission letter, emphasizing that the current denial was based on security reasons and the impracticality of such a long-distance journey on a two-wheeler.

This incident highlights the complexities involved in religious pilgrimages and the role of law enforcement in ensuring safety and adherence to regulations.
