Coimbatore: The Pongal festival, organized by the Tiruppur District Tourism Department at Samalapuram Kulakkarai, was a grand affair with the participation of District Collector Christhuraj. Celebrating the Tamil harvest festival, the event focused on traditional activities and cultural showcases.
Christhuraj, along with District Tourism Officer Aravind Kumar, arrived at the venue in a bullock cart, a gesture that paid homage to the rural roots of the festival. The celebration commenced with 101 women participating in the Pongal cooking ceremony, symbolizing prosperity and gratitude.

Following the Pongal preparation, Christhuraj enthusiastically took part in Uri Adithal (breaking the pot) and demonstrated his skills in Silambam (a traditional martial art), expressing his joy and involvement in the local traditions.

The event also featured a range of traditional games and performances, including Karagattam, Valli Kummi, and more Silambattam shows, drawing attention to the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu.
