Coimbatore Corporation takes action against defaulters by disconnecting 10 water connections due to pending water charges.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Corporation has initiated stringent measures against establishments with pending water charges. With over 5 lakh households, private firms, educational institutions, and commercial complexes within the 100 wards of the Corporation area, many have defaulted on their water bill payments.
Commissioner M. Shivakuru Prabakaran has issued orders to concerned officials to collect overdue water charges. As a result, a private commercial complex in the 33rd ward of the Western Region, which had not paid water charges for several years, was instructed to settle an outstanding amount of Rs. 12.40 lakhs. However, due to non-payment, two water connections to the complex were severed on Saturday (Jan 20). Similarly, water connections to eight houses in the Central Region were also disconnected for non-payment of dues.
