Tensions escalated in Pollachi following a controversial post on Facebook by former DMK district secretary Thendral Selvaraj and his son, DMK youth wing deputy organizer Manimaran.

Coimbatore: Tensions escalated in Pollachi following a controversial post on Facebook by former DMK district secretary Tendral Selvaraj and his son, DMK youth wing deputy organizer Manimaran. The post, which referenced serving beef biryani to Lord Rama in Ayodhya, sparked outrage among BJP members, leading to a siege of Selvaraj's house and subsequent clashes between DMK and BJP supporters.

During the altercation, DMK administrator Manimaran sustained injuries and was admitted to the Pollachi Government Hospital. The West Police Station registered a case and arrested 11 BJP members, including city leader Paramaguru, under multiple sections including threat to life, trespassing, and violating the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.

Of the arrested BJP members, two, including a female administrator and an unwell member, were released on court bail. The remaining nine were detained in the Coimbatore Central Prison. The arrest of the BJP members led to a sudden road blockade protest led by BJP district leader Vasantharajan at Udumalai bus stand, causing significant disruption.

The protesters demanded the arrest of the DMK administrators for allegedly defaming Lord Rama on social media and called for the release of the BJP members. The standoff on the Pollachi-Udumalai National Highway disrupted traffic for some time. Following prolonged negotiations, police assured action against the DMK members, leading to the dispersal of the Hindu organizations.
