Elephant tramples woman to death near Madukkarai.


Shanthi, a 30-year-old woman was trampled to death by an elephant, while she was rearing her cattle in the reserve area. 

Shanthi, wife of Karuppusamy are residents of Kandegoundan Chavadi, Pudhupathi, Madukkarai. It has been reported that an elephant from the Kerala border chased Shanthi and trampled her to death. 

Hearing Shanthi's cries, people nearby rescued and rushed her to the Government hospital (GH) in a very critical state. Unfortunately, not responding to treatment, Shanthi was declared dead this evening at the GH. Her body has sent for post-mortem examination and a case has been registered in this regard. 



District Forest Officer Ramasubramaniam handed over Rs.50,000 as initial compensation to Shanthi's husband and expressed his deepest condolences to him. 'The remaining 3 lakhs of compensation will be handed over to the Victim's family shortly', sources said.
