Coimbatore Achieves World Record in Drug-Free Awareness Pledge

The Coimbatore City Police and Park Educational Institutions have initiated a digital drug-free pledge, marking a world record with the participation of over 1,37,294 students in a commitment against drug use.

Coimbatore: In a significant move towards raising drug awareness, the Coimbatore City Police, in collaboration with Park Educational Institutions, have successfully created a world record with a digital drug-free pledge. This initiative has seen a massive turnout, with students across the city participating to pledge against drug use.

The event was inaugurated by Sundararajan, the spokesperson for Park Educational Groups, who welcomed the attendees. The ceremony saw Ravi, the head of Park Educational Institutions, taking the lead in addressing the gathering.

Anusha Ravi, the CEO of Park Educational Groups, highlighted that out of the total pledges collected, 1,12,375 were accepted. This achievement has been officially recognized by the World Record Union, which awarded the certificate on February 6, 2024, acknowledging this as a global record.

This initiative began on June 26, 2023, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, with the digital pledge starting on September 12, 2023, and concluding on January 31, 2024. By the end of December 2023, the campaign had already reached a milestone of one lakh pledges.

Christopher Taylor Craft, a representative from the World Record Union, presented the certificate to Anusha Ravi in the presence of the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, V. Balakrishnan.

Commissioner Balakrishnan lauded the colleges participating in this awareness campaign, stressing the importance of leadership and the necessity of maintaining balance and stability in life. He remarked on the misleading guidance of some films on drugs and emphasized the significance of seeding positive thoughts among the youth.

Out of the participating colleges, 1000 students were selected to represent a drug-free Coimbatore, tasked with spreading awareness about the dangers of drug use among their peers and monitoring for any drug activity. Additionally, a helpline for students will be established. For more information, visit http://drugfreekovai.com.
