Worker Dies After Fainting in Sewage Tank in Coimbatore; Police Investigate Possible Gas Poisoning

Mohanasundaram, a sewage cleaning worker in Coimbatore's Sungam area, tragically lost his life after fainting inside a sewage tank he was cleaning. Police are investigating the incident for potential gas poisoning.


Coimbatore: In a tragic incident in Coimbatore's Sungam area, a sewage tank cleaner, Mohanasundaram, succumbed to injuries after fainting inside a sewage tank. The incident occurred last night as Mohanasundaram, who had over a decade of experience in cleaning sewage tanks, particularly in the Saibaba Colony area, was extracting sewage with the help of his sewage tanker. While attempting to clean the sludge at the bottom of the tank, he unexpectedly fainted and fell into the tank.

His colleagues, Ramu and Guna, who were present at the scene, immediately entered the tank in an attempt to rescue him. Onlookers quickly alerted the police and emergency services, leading to the swift arrival of the Peelamedu police at the site. The emergency team managed to retrieve Mohanasundaram and his colleagues from the tank and transported them to the Coimbatore Government Hospital.





Upon examination, doctors confirmed Mohanasundaram had already passed away, while Ramu and Guna received medical treatment for their exposure. The Peelamedu police have registered a case and are currently investigating whether Mohanasundaram's death was caused by gas poisoning within the sewage tank.

This heart-wrenching event has cast a shadow over the community, highlighting the dangers faced by sanitation workers. The ongoing investigation seeks to clarify the circumstances leading to Mohanasundaram's untimely demise and to ensure such tragedies are prevented in the future.
