Coimbatore: Members of the Communist Party have successfully resolved a decades-long land dispute for 244 Adi Dravidar families in the Irugur village of Coimbatore. Despite having been granted free house site pattas (land ownership documents) by the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department in 2001, the families had not been able to settle due to ongoing legal disputes by various parties claiming ownership.
This impasse was broken thanks to the concerted efforts of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and district leaders of the Communist Party, who spent over 10 years battling in court to prove the rightful ownership of the land for these families. The recent verification of the beneficiaries' documents by a team led by the Adi Dravidar Welfare Thasildar Malathi and Revenue Inspector Murugan at the Irugur Community Welfare Center confirms the families' claims.
The Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front's district leader, U.K. Sivanandham, emphasized that their aim is to ensure the rightful settlement of these families on their land. The involvement of various community leaders and legal advisors in the process has brought relief and gratitude from the beneficiaries, who expressed their heartfelt thanks to the Communist Party officials for their persistent efforts.
The families are now looking forward to finally settling on their rightfully owned plots, a matter of both justice and joy that has been long awaited. The event saw significant support from local officials and community members, including district treasurer Maheswaran, 8th ward member of the Irugur Panchayat Stalin Kumar, lawyer Ramar, branch secretary of the Communist Party Radhakrishnan, CITU leader Vijayaraghavan, and secretary Prakash, among others who assisted the beneficiaries. The people, overwhelmed with emotion and joy, tearfully thanked the Communist Party leaders for their support, anticipating that they will soon be able to settle on their own land.
