Forest Department Inaugurates Eco Shop Near Amaravathi Crocodile Farm

The Forest Department has launched an eco-friendly shop near the Amaravathi Crocodile Farm in Coimbatore, offering a range of products including drinking water, ice cream, tea, fish fry, and merchandise featuring the Anamalai Tiger Reserve emblem.

Coimbatore: A new eco shop has been opened by the Forest Department near the Amaravathi Crocodile Farm, located in the Palan Nagar area, Ward No. 52, East Zone of Coimbatore City. This initiative is part of the efforts by the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, under the Coimbatore Division, Amaravathi Range, to enhance the tourist experience in the region. The Amaravathi Crocodile Farm, established in 1975, serves as a major attraction, housing 84 crocodiles ranging from hatchlings to adults.

The eco shop aims to provide tourists and visitors with a variety of services including clean drinking water, ice cream, tea, fish fry, and a selection of merchandise like key chains and T-shirts bearing the Anamalai Tiger Reserve emblem. Future plans include expanding the product range based on visitor feedback to include more food options and handicrafts.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the livelihoods of the tribal communities living in nearby areas such as Karattupathy, Paraiyur, Thalinji Vayal, and Manjampatty. These communities have been the focus of several development projects undertaken by the Tamil Nadu government through the Forest Department.

The shop was inaugurated in the presence of notable officials from the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, including Director Ramasubramaniam, Deputy Director Devendra Kumar, and the Amaravathi Ranger Suresh. Following the opening ceremony, Director Ramasubramaniam conducted consultations with the Forest Department officials regarding the care of the crocodiles and the amenities required for tourists visiting the farm.

He also instructed the newly opened eco shop to provide high-quality, hygienic food catering to the preferences of tourists and students, especially considering the increased visitor turnout during the exam holiday season.
