Tamil Nadu Colleges Petition Against AICTE's New BBA/BCA Course Approval Requirements

The Association of Self Financing Arts, Science, and Management Colleges of Tamil Nadu has filed a Writ Petition challenging AICTE's mandate on BBA/BCA course approvals and its permission for technical institutions to offer these courses from the academic session 2024-2025.

Coimbatore: The Association of Self Financing Arts, Science, and Management Colleges of Tamil Nadu has filed a Writ Petition seeking a declaration to deem the provisions in the APH 2024-2025, issued by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), as requiring approval for conducting BBA/BCA courses by existing Arts and Science Colleges affiliated to State Universities, and further allowing Technical Institutions/Engineering Colleges to conduct these courses from the academic session 2024-2025, as unconstitutional.

This legal action comes in response to a public notice issued by AICTE on 26.12.2023. The High Court of Madras, upon hearing the petition on 15.02.2024, has directed AICTE to file a counter affidavit and postponed the hearing to 21.03.2024, highlighting the significant impact this mandate could have on the autonomy of state-affiliated colleges in Tamil Nadu.
