Coimbatore's Ward 21 Residents Await Road Facilities for Years

Residents of Ward No. 21 in Coimbatore have been facing deteriorated road conditions due to various projects and rain damage, with some streets like Bharathiyar Street severely affected for over 15 years.

Coimbatore: Residents of areas under Coimbatore Corporation in Saravanampatti village, Vinayakapuram, Ward No. 21, including Bharathiyar Street, Sivathangam Nagar, Abirami Nagar, and over ten other streets, have been enduring poor road conditions due to holes dug for various projects and damage caused by rain. Notably, Bharathiyar Street has been in a particularly bad state without maintenance, suffering damage for the past 15 years.

Concerned residents have repeatedly approached Poongodi Somasundaram, the councillor of the 21st Ward, seeking action. Following their appeals, Somasundaram has continuously requested road and drainage facilities improvements from Coimbatore Municipal Commissioner and ministers K.N. Nehru and Muthusamy.

In response to these ongoing issues, Municipal Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran personally inspected the affected areas of Ward No. 21, under Coimbatore Municipality's North Zone. Upon inquiry about the road laying process, Councillor Poongodi Somasundaram shared that the Commissioner, after his inspection, assured that initial patchwork would be done on these roads as a temporary solution. Further, after the upcoming elections, there are plans to convert these roads into tar roads through the Scheme Road initiative.

This statement offers a glimmer of hope to the residents, who have been waiting for years for a permanent solution to their road woes.
