Over 11,000 Farmers Committed Suicide Last Year Due to Harsh Agricultural Laws, Claims Tiruchi Siva at DMK Rally in Pollachi

At a DMK election rally in Pollachi, Rajya Sabha member Tiruchi Siva criticized the central government's agricultural laws, attributing them to the alarming number of farmer suicides last year.

Coimbatore: As Tamil Nadu gears up for the upcoming parliamentary elections, the DMK has been actively campaigning across the state to reclaim rights, with a series of election propaganda meetings titled "Stalin's Voice".

A significant meeting under this campaign took place last night in Pollachi, led by district secretary Thalapathi Murugesan. The meeting saw participation from ministers M.P. Saminathan and Kayalvizhi Selvaraj. Rajya Sabha member Tiruchi Siva, speaking as a special guest, criticized the current BJP-led central government for dismantling the noble values embedded in the Indian political system by the authors of the constitution. He specifically blamed the harsh agricultural laws introduced by the central government for the tragic suicides of 11,120 farmers last year alone.

Tiruchi Siva highlighted the suppression of opposition voices in the parliament and accused the BJP of crippling the functioning of opposition-ruled states like Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Delhi, stating that a good government should operate without bias. The rally was also attended by Pollachi parliamentary representative Shanmugasundaram, Pollachi city secretary Navaneethakrishnan, city council leader Shyamala, and thousands of DMK officials and supporters.
