“Sophisticated Wheel Chair for Intellectually Challenged" developed by Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering department of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) - Headquarters, Newyork under the scheme of EPICS (Engineering Projects In Community Services) provided funds to The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering to design a “Sophisticated Wheel Chair for Intellectually Challenged'. 



An amount of $2210 USD (Rs.1,45,241/-) was sanctioned for the fabrication of the wheel chair. The aim of the project was to design an automated Wheel Chair where differently-abled people can help themselves to move around without any help.

Conversion of Chair into Bed position, Adjustment of Back Rest and Leg Rest individually, Semi Automatic Movement using joystick be it outdoors, indoors or in hospitals, Continuous monitoring of the user by the care takers to ensure the safety of the user are some of the salient faetaures of this wheel chair. 

The wheelchair was donated to the Amrit Centre for Special Needs, Coimbatore last week. Amrit Centre caters to children of all ages from birth to 18 and above with different types of disabilities.
