Monkey Menace in Periyanayakanpalayam - Sidewalk Vendors Demand Action

On March 4, a group of more than five monkeys was reported to have invaded the premises of the Periyanayakanpalayam police station, creating chaos among the local vendors.

Coimbatore: As the summer season begins, encounters between wildlife and residents in urban areas of Coimbatore have become a common occurrence. A recent incident in Periyanayakanpalayam has spotlighted the growing issue of wildlife intrusion in populated areas. On March 4, a group of more than five monkeys was reported to have invaded the premises of the Periyanayakanpalayam police station, creating chaos among the local vendors.

The monkeys targeted sidewalk vendors, particularly those selling bananas and vegetables, leading to significant losses. The affected vendors reported that the monkeys not only consumed the fruits and vegetables but also caused damage to their stalls, adversely affecting their businesses.

In response to this disruption, sidewalk vendors and concerned citizens in the area have raised a call for action from the forest department officials. They urge the authorities to implement effective measures to manage the monkey population and prevent further incidents that threaten their livelihoods and safety.

This situation in Periyanayakanpalayam reflects a broader challenge of balancing wildlife conservation with the needs and safety of local communities in Coimbatore. Stakeholders are hopeful for a swift and humane solution to address the monkey menace and safeguard the interests of both the residents and the local fauna.
