Coimbatore-UDAY Express Extension to Palani Proposed by Pollachi MP

Pollachi MP, K. Shanmuga Sundaram, requests the extension of the Coimbatore-KSR Bengaluru-UDAY Express to Palani, citing benefits for IT professionals and pilgrims traveling between Coimbatore, Palani, and Bengaluru.

Coimbatore: In an effort to enhance rail connectivity and support the socio-economic development of the region, K. Shanmuga Sundaram, Member of Parliament from Pollachi, has made an official request to the Southern Railways for the extension of the Coimbatore - KSR Bengaluru - Coimbatore UDAY Express service to Palani via Pollachi.

This proposal comes in light of the high volume of traffic between these regions, where Palani, a noted pilgrimage town in Tamil Nadu, attracts a substantial number of visitors, including pilgrims from across the country and IT professionals from Bengaluru. The suggested extension will provide direct rail connectivity, thereby benefiting various sectors, including tourism and industry, and improving access to educational institutions.

According to the letter, Pollachi Junction is a vital node serving several taluks within Coimbatore district and faces daily congestion from commuters traveling to Bengaluru. The extension will alleviate the heavy reliance on road transport and is expected to foster smoother travel for the multitude of professionals and students commuting daily. The move is also poised to benefit traders and businesses by facilitating easier transport of goods such as textiles, coir, and agricultural products.

Moreover, with the recent establishment of IT sector companies and the use of Bengaluru International Airport by locals for international travel, the rail link's extension is projected to offer a strategic boost to the region's connectivity.

Shanmuga Sundaram's request underscores the significance of the Coimbatore-Sathyamangalam-Palani-Bengaluru corridor as a bustling conduit for trade, education, and pilgrimage, emphasizing the essential role of robust transport links in regional development. The request awaits consideration from the railway authorities.
