Employees of State highways department condemn issuance of highway maintenance tender to private sector.

The Tamil Nadu State Highways department workers association hosted it's regional executive committee meeting at Thomas Club, Coimbatore. 


Speaking at this meet, Amsaraj, President, TN State Highways workers association said that, 'Government of Tamil Nadu has allotted 1300 crores of budget towards maintenance of state highways to a private sector, SPK limited. 

State Highways pertaining to Pollachi, Krishnagiri, Thiruvallur, Ramanathapuram has been allotted to this private sector. But, actually if the government takes up the maintenance work, the actual expenses would cost only Rs. 300 crore. Whereas, the private has taken the contract for 1300 crore?, which is highly deplorable' , Amsaraj said. 

Various other demands like employment for legal heirs after retirement, regularised increment, settlement of arrears among others were also put-forth at the meet.

'We have planned to conduct state-wide protests at all Divisional Highways department offices, on April 6th. And, we have unanimously decided to extend our support to the indefinite protest called for by the government employees on 25th April, 2017. On22nd April, a state-level representation meeting will be held in Coimbatore', Amsaraj said.
