Investigation into Sri Sai Baba Vidyalayam Students' Participation in PM Modi's Event in Coimbatore; BJP issued notice

School officials and BJP Coimbatore are under scrutiny after students from Sri Sai Baba Vidyalayam attended Prime Minister Modi's roadshow in Coimbatore, violating election campaign regulations.

Coimbatore: A controversy has arisen following the participation of students from Sri Sai Baba Vidyalayam, a government-assisted primary school, in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's roadshow event in Coimbatore on March 11, 2024. The incident, which quickly became viral on social media, has prompted an investigation by district officials, including the District Electoral Officer and Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, alongside the Chief Education Officer and the Joint Commissioner of the Labour Department.

The issue came to light when photographs of the schoolchildren at the Prime Minister's roadshow were widely circulated online, leading to an official inquiry into the school's administration for potentially violating election campaign rules that prohibit the involvement of children in such activities. The Chief Education Officer sent a notice to the school seeking an explanation for the students' attendance at the political event, emphasizing the need for immediate action against the headmaster and teachers involved.

In response, a detailed investigation was conducted over two hours by Chief Education Officer Punitha Anthoniyammal and other officials. They interrogated the headmaster, teachers, and the students involved, aiming to gather a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances leading to their participation in the event.

The inquiry focused on whether the school administration had coerced or allowed the students to participate in the roadshow, thereby infringing on election campaign regulations. Following the investigation, the officials collected written explanations from the headmaster, teachers, and involved students, before departing from the school premises.

This incident has sparked a debate on the appropriateness of involving schoolchildren in political campaigns, highlighting the need for strict adherence to electoral rules and regulations.

Following this investigation yesterday, BJP Coimbatore has been issued notice by election officials seeking their explanation.

The outcome of the investigation and the actions taken against the involved parties are awaited, as the community calls for accountability and the safeguarding of children's rights in the political arena.
