Palm Sunday Procession Marks the Beginning of Holy Week for Christians in Coimbatore

In Coimbatore, the Palm Sunday procession from CSI Christ Church in Gandhipuram commemorates Jesus Christ's crucifixion, initiating the Holy Week leading up to Easter, with numerous attendees participating in the solemn march.

Coimbatore: The Christian community in Coimbatore observed Palm Sunday on March 24, marking the start of the Holy Week, which commemorates the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Lenten season, observed for 40 days starting from February 14, culminates in the Holy Week, considered the most sacred period in the Christian liturgical calendar.

The Palm Sunday procession, signifying Jesus's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, commenced in front of the CSI Christ Church in Gandhipuram. The event was led by Bishop David Barnabas, with Secretary Jayachandran, Treasurer Ravi Inbasingh, Assistant Bishop Sam Jebasunder, and Church staff Santosh participating.

Men, women, and children holding palm leaves and singing "Hosanna Hosanna" in praise of Jesus's holy name marched through Fifth Street and Main Road, concluding their journey back at the church. This procession is a profound demonstration of faith and tradition, echoing through the streets of Coimbatore.

Following the procession, a special prayer service was held in the church. With Good Friday being observed on March 29, and Easter Sunday on March 31, the forthcoming days are filled with solemn observances and celebrations, marking the resurrection of Jesus and the culmination of the Lenten season.
