Bridging academia and industry in the field of entomology - TNAU Launches First-Ever Professor of Practice Program.

TNAU inaugurated its first Professor of Practice Program on March 25, aiming to bridge academia and industry in the field of entomology. The program facilitates regular lectures across Tamil Nadu, enhancing learning through practical insights.


Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has introduced a pioneering initiative with the launch of its first-ever Professor of Practice Program in the Department of Entomology. 

The ceremony, held on 25th March 2024, was presided over by TNAU Vice Chancellor Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, alongside esteemed guests Dr. N. Senthil, Dean (SPGS), and Dr. Shanthi, Director of the Centre for Plant Protection Studies.

Dr. Murugan, Head of the Department of Entomology, welcomed the participants, marking the commencement of a program designed to foster a closer connection between academic knowledge and industry practice. The initiative seeks to extend educational reach by facilitating regular lectures by the newly appointed professor at TNAU's constituent colleges across Tamil Nadu.



The lectures, aimed at broadening students' perspectives on entomology, will be recorded and broadcasted via MS Teams, ensuring students from other campuses can also benefit from the expertise shared. In a significant gesture, the Vice Chancellor presented the Professor of Practice certificate to the appointed entrepreneur, underlining the program's commitment to practical learning.

The event also featured interactions with honeybee entrepreneurs, with Dr. V. Geethalakshmi urging students to grasp key business techniques in honeybee comb production technology.



Industry experts, V. Jino of JEE Honey, Marthadam, and A. Dhandayuthapani of APD Apiary, Erode, delivered insightful talks, sharing their experiences and encouraging students to develop essential entrepreneurial skills.

The Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of learning from seasoned entrepreneurs, indicating that the program will continue to deliver lectures to other constituent colleges, thus broadening the horizons of TNAU students in the coming months.
