Coimbatore: In a poignant moment reflecting the ongoing agricultural protests, the ashes of Subkaran Singh, a 21-year-old farmer from Punjab who lost his life in a confrontation during a protest march to Delhi, have reached Coimbatore on 3rd April 2024. The march, initiated from the Punjab border, was met with resistance and tear gas by Haryana police, resulting in Singh's untimely death. The march was part of a broader agitation demanding legal guarantees for minimum support prices (MSP) for agricultural products and loan waivers among other issues.

In his honor, and demanding justice for his death, the ashes of Subkaran Singh are being taken on a nationwide pilgrimage under the aegis of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha organization. Upon arrival at the Coimbatore Airport, leaders and members from various democratic progressive organizations, along with fellow farmers, paid their respects by laying flowers and rendering a salute.

The event was attended by prominent figures including K. Ramakrishnan, General Secretary of the Dravida Kazhagam, V. Aaruchamy of the Revolutionary Youth Front, Ilavenil of the Tamil Tigers Party, and Shanmugasundaram of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association, among others.
