All Corporation buildings to install rain water harvesting structures.


In a bid to conserve rain water, Rain Water Harvesting Structures will be installed at all Corporation buildings, said Corporation Commissioner Dr.K. Vijayakarthikeyan. Officials of Corporation were asked to personally carry out inspections at ll five zones to ensure the same. 

Speaking on this, Dr. Vijayakarthikeyan said, 'Corporation has been taking all measures and creating persistent awareness to the people to conserve water. In this regard, people who are newly constructing buildings, expanding the existing one nor renovating are asked to construct rain water harvesting structures in their houses.  

Officials are asked to keep a check on this and also to encourage residents to install rain water harvesting structures in their premise. Corporation will issue guidelines and start propagating amongst the citizens on the need for conserving rain water. Universal adoption of rain water harvesting system in the city can do wonders in increasing the ground water table, which at present on the verge of depletion due to rapid urbanization. 

And, predominantly all Corporation offices and buildings are also instructed to construct rain water harvesting structures with immediate effect', Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan said.
