Election Campaigning in Tamil Nadu Ends at 6 PM Today, Violators to Face Penalties

In Tamil Nadu, election campaigning ends at 6 PM today. Campaigning beyond this time could result in imprisonment for two years or fines, according to officials.

Coimbatore: As Tamil Nadu gears up for the elections scheduled on April 19 from 7 AM to 6 PM, the state authorities have announced strict guidelines regarding the conclusion of election campaigning. All political parties and candidates must cease their public, electronic, and social media campaigning activities by 6 PM today. Failure to comply with these instructions will attract severe consequences, including a possible two-year prison sentence or hefty fines.

Post-campaign periods will strictly prohibit campaigners from staying in the electoral constituencies or transporting voters to polling stations. The Election Commission mandates that all political parties should cease vehicle movements in the vicinity of polling stations and establish their temporary camps at least 200 meters away with no more than two persons managing each location.

Further restrictions include a ban on all election campaign activities on platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, X-website, and other electronic devices beyond the stipulated time. The use of any public media—movies, television, FM radio, and social networks—to display election-related content is strictly forbidden.

These measures have been put into place to ensure a fair and disturbance-free election. Party workers are urged to adhere strictly to these guidelines to avoid legal repercussions.

"Ensure you carry out your duties without violating the electoral code. It is vital for maintaining the integrity and smooth conduct of the elections," stated an Election Commission official. The commission's focus remains on a transparent and equitable poll process for all candidates and voters alike.
