Water Released from Amaravathi Dam for Drinking Needs in Tirupur and Karur

Water release from Amaravathi Dam near Udumalai has been initiated to cater to the drinking water needs of Tirupur and Karur districts, following a public request. The release will continue until the 21st.

Coimbatore: In a significant move to address the drinking water crises in Tirupur and parts of Karur district, water has been released from the Amaravathi Dam, situated near Udumalai. This decision came following persistent requests from local residents and farmers from the region.

Starting from today, the release process will allow approximately 235 cubic feet of water per day, reaching up to a total of 86.40 million cubic feet by the 21st of this month. The Tamil Nadu government has permitted this measure considering the available water reserves and the ongoing water flow rates. Currently, the water level in Amaravathi Dam stands at 44.10 feet out of a maximum capacity of 90 feet, with a water inflow of 5 cubic feet.

This temporary solution aims to alleviate the water scarcity faced by the people in the said districts and is a reflection of the government's responsive measures towards public crises.
