Annamalai Calls for Re-election in Coimbatore Constituency

Annamalai, BJP State President, demands a re-election in Coimbatore, citing removal of 830 voters from the electoral rolls at a single polling station.

Coimbatore: Election activities in the Coimbatore Parliamentary constituency witnessed brisk voting today, April 19.

Post casting his vote in Karur, BJP State President Annamalai addressed the media in Coimbatore.

He highlighted the vibrant voter turnout in the region but revealed that over 100,000 names were missing from the electoral rolls, indicating a significant lapse. Voters from various parts have shown keen interest to vote despite challenges such as spouses being allocated different polling stations.

A severe issue was identified at the Angappa School polling station in the Goundampalayam assembly constituency, where names of 830 voters were deleted. Annamalai criticized the Election Commission for not taking sufficient preparative and corrective actions, which reflects poorly on the electoral process management.

Questioning the basis on which these 830 names were removed from the same constituency, Annamalai demanded a re-election at this polling station. Despite these irregularities, he noted that voters remain enthusiastic and exercised their voting rights in large numbers. The Election Commission has also shown negligence in arranging transportation for the elderly, yet voter turnout was high.

BJP continues to advocate for a resolution and calls for a protest to address these electoral discrepancies.
