Drones Deployed to Monitor Devotees Climbing Velliangiri Mountains During Chitra Pournami

Coimbatore is set to use drones for monitoring devotees climbing Velliangiri mountains for Chitra Pournami on April 23, aiding in crowd management and preventing wildfires, effective from February to May.

Coimbatore: Known as the "South Kailash," Velliangiri Mountains witness a surge in pilgrims from February to May each year. In anticipation of Chitra Pournami on April 23, which traditionally draws large crowds, the Forest Department announced yesterday that it would deploy drones for efficient crowd management and early detection of potential wildfires.

With the intense summer heat, the risk of wildfires in the forested areas increases. The drones, capable of carrying up to 10 kg, will be essential not only for monitoring but also for emergency medical deliveries.

This move ensures the safety and well-being of the devotees, leveraging technology to enhance the capability of the authorities to manage the site effectively during peak pilgrimage season.
