Near Pollachi, hundreds of devotees participated in the Kundam festival at Bodipalayam Badrakaliyamman Temple, fulfilling their vows by ire-walking.
Coimbatore: The ancient and revered Badrakaliyamman Temple in Bodipalayam, near Pollachi, witnessed a grand ceremonial event as hundreds of devotees took part in the annual Kundam festival. This significant religious festival, celebrated fervently each year during the Tamil month of Chithirai, commenced on April 8 with rituals of fasting and flag hoisting. Following this, holy water was brought from nearby temples, including Meenakulathi Bhagavathi Amman Temple, Avinashi Kodumudi Dhroupathi Amman, and Dharmaraja Temples, to perform special poojas and erect the ceremonial flagpole.
The highlight of the festival was the fire-walking ritual performed by devotees to fulfill their vows. Last night, the temple precincts were prepared with the sacred fire pit for this purifying act. Subsequently, a procession featuring the deity on a lion vehicle paraded towards the flower-decorated fire pit amid spectacular fireworks, culminating in the divine marriage ceremony of the goddess.
Early this morning, over a hundred fasting devotees descended into the fire pit chanting praises to Badrakaliyamman, offering their devotion and fulfilling their vows. Thousands of people from the surrounding areas gathered to witness the festival and seek blessings from Badrakaliyamman, marking another successful year of devout celebrations and communal harmony.
