TNAU Research Scholars Awarded DST-Inspire Fellowships

Fifteen students from TNAU, Coimbatore, received the prestigious DST-Inspire Fellowships with five-year financial aid. The felicitation was held at Anna Auditorium on 25.04.2023.


Coimbatore: The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, bestowed its prestigious Inspire Fellowships on fifteen diligent students from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) across various disciplines. This fellowship, spanning five years, provides a monthly stipend of Rs. 37,000 and an annual contingency to support research endeavors.


The recipients specialize in fields such as Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Agricultural Meteorology, Agricultural Entomology, Agricultural Machinery and Energy Technology, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Silviculture and Resource Management, Seed Science and Technology, and Genetics and Plant Breeding.


The felicitation of these accomplished scholars took place during a gathering at the Anna Auditorium on April 25, 2023, which was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of TNAU. Dr. N. Senthil, Dean of the School of Post Graduate Studies, opened the meeting by detailing various scholarship opportunities available at TNAU.




He emphasized the university's initiatives to foster research culture among its students, including organizing yearly think tank meetings to discuss and approve research topics. The event also highlighted the success stories of the students who secured the DST-Inspire Fellowships for the upcoming year and also the mentors and technical directors who guided them.


Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, in her presidential address, provided insights into the INSPIRE program, which annually offers 1000 fellowships to students aged 22-27 in various fields of science, including engineering and medicine. She outlined the key components necessary to apply for these fellowships, such as the curriculum vitae of both student and mentor and the quality of the research proposal.


The meeting saw an impressive turnout, with over 500 postgraduate and doctoral students, university staff, and the mentors of the award-winning scholars in attendance. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. K.N. Ganesan, Professor at the Office of SPGS, concluding the event on a high note.
