Udumalpet Village Administrative Officer Karuppasamy's Death Case Takes a New Turn

Karuppasamy, a village officer from Kanakkampalayam in Udumalpet, was initially reported to have died by suicide. Following new evidence, the case is now being treated as an abetment to suicide.

Tirupur: In a shocking development in the case of Karuppasamy, a 38-year-old postgraduate in statistics and a village administrative officer from Kanakkampalayam in Udumalpet, who was reported to have committed suicide on March 23, the case has taken a new turn. Karuppasamy was found struggling for life in the terrace after consuming poison, and despite immediate medical attention at Pollachi Government Hospital, he succumbed to his condition. Initially registered as a suicide, his death is now being investigated under abetment charges after a dying declaration pointed fingers at two individuals, Chitra, another village assistant, and Maniyan, for their roles in his demise.

Relatives of the deceased, who travelled to Udumalpet, lodged a formal complaint with RDO Jaswant Kannan on March 24, prompting further investigation. Subsequently, the Coimbatore District Police Superintendent and the Pollachi Deputy Superintendent were notified. Following increased scrutiny, a protest by village administrative officers under their union’s banner took place, demanding action against the accused. The situation is ongoing, with further investigations led by the Gomangalam police and Deputy Superintendent J. Sukumaran.

In light of these events, disciplinary actions against the accused are being considered, as stated by Udumalpet Tahsildar B. Sundaram, following the cessation of the protests by the village officers.
