Coimbatore Volunteers Host Charity Cricket Match for Muscular Dystrophy

Volunteers in Coimbatore organized a cricket match at Turf Grounds raising funds for children afflicted with muscular dystrophy. The tournament involved multiple teams from various districts aiming to support treatment costs.

Coimbatore: In a heartwarming move to support children suffering from muscular dystrophy, a genetic disorder progressively weakening muscles, local volunteers at Coimbatore conducted a charity cricket tournament. Held at the city's Turf Grounds, the event aimed to gather financial support required for high-cost treatments, which can range from 5 to 12 crore rupees.

This debilitating condition increasingly affects a number of children globally each day, putting a significant financial strain on middle-class and economically weaker families. Recognizing this, the governments and various NGOs have been looking forward to aiding these families, providing subsidized medications and crowd-funded financial aid.

The Rotary Club of Infra, a selfless organization based in Coimbatore, orchestrated this cricket event, which saw participation from over 20 teams from districts like Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Palakkad, Karur, Namakkal, and Avinashi. The fund collected from this cricket match was dedicated exclusively to the medical and living costs associated with the treatment of children impacted by this severe condition. Leader Kamraj of the Rotary Club of Infra underscored the dual purpose of the event - to raise awareness about muscular dystrophy and to rally financial support for the affected children.

This charitable initiative not only highlights the community's solidarity but also emphasizes the critical need for accessible healthcare solutions for genetic disorders which incur high treatment costs. The success of such community-driven events showcases the power of collective efforts in addressing and mitigating healthcare challenges.
