Women Stage Road Blockade Near Pollachi Demanding Drinking Water Supply

Women from Sundaragoundanur and Marampudingi Goundanpudur villages near Pollachi blocked the Pollachi-Dharapuram road, impacting traffic for two hours due to prolonged water supply issues.

Coimbatore: On Monday, residents of Sundaragoundanur and Marampudingi Goundanpudur, two villages near Pollachi, took a dramatic step by blocking the main Pollachi-Dharapuram road with empty water containers.

This protest was triggered by a severe interruption in their water supply, which has been inconsistent over the last six months and completely halted for the past 30 days.

The lack of drinking water for both people and cattle has driven the villagers, especially women, to take this drastic action.

The blockade resulted in a two-hour traffic standstill, forcing vehicles travelling from Pollachi to Dharapuram to take alternative routes.

Police arrived at the scene to negotiate with the protestors, who have vowed to continue their sit-in until responsible department officials address their grievances. As of now, no resolution has been reached, and the women continue to protest, demanding an immediate restoration of water supply.
