On the World Autism day an Autism Awareness Campaign was hosted by Third eye, a unit of Sharanalayam a concise learning centre for Autistic Children.
The campaign marked with a dance performance by the students from Sharanalayam. The performance was very thoughtful and took the audience little emotional as the little ones held placards which read "We are also like all kids do not avoid us".
Saranya Rangarajan, Correspondent of Sharanalayam's Third eye while speaking to SimpliCity shared that "We have 55 certified Autism Training Center across India. And we are proud to have one such centre in Coimbatore.The centre has evolved continuously in training autistic kids. It's unfortunate that still a large section of parents regard Autism as a disease. Societal stigma is yet another challenge. It's high time that parents and society should change their attitude towards these innocent kids instead embrace these kids'
"In US out of 45 kids, 1 kid suffers autism. In India 2 % of kids among the population are affected with autism. India lacks a proper survey in this regard. Autism is not just a genetic disorder. Early intervention is very important in autism. Parents take long time to bring their autistic children for consultation by misjudging the child's developmental issues as normal or genetic. If parents spot symptoms like difficulty in speaking, co-ordination, eating, walking, parents should waste no time instead should take them to a physician for proper a thorough examination.
Autistic children do not require medicines but only therapies can bring betterment. At Sharanalayam we provide Applied Behavioral Analysis for Autistic kids. The duration of therapy is different for each individual. While some show sign of recovery as early as in 6 months and some may take even up to 3 years. Sharnalayam has been successfully providing therapies to Autistic Kids. In the past two years, six autistic children were given therapies and were sent to normal school from our centre." said Saranya Rangaraj.
