Devotees Throng Kangeyam Sowdeswari Amman Temple for Chithirai Pongal Festival

Coimbatore: The Chithirai Pongal Festival unfolded in Kangeyam at the Sowdeswari Amman Temple where devotees engaged in ceremonial activities including traditional piercing rituals to fulfill their vows.



The festival saw a vivid display of heritage through dance performances by men, women, and children of temple families that added pomp to the celebrations. Traditional combat sports and dances like Silambattam, swordplay, and deer horn fights were significant highlights that drew massive crowds.




Local streets were transformed into a vibrant hub with the spirited performances of cultural dances and martial arts that enthralled the audience, creating a festive atmosphere.



The event also featured intricate rituals staged near the Kangeyam Bus Station at the Devangapuram Sowdeswari Amman and Mariamman Temple, which started on the 23rd last month with the flower-offering ceremony, followed by various significant and sacred rituals culminating in the recent grand procession carrying milk pots to the deity, concluding with a divine chariot procession.
