National Level Silambam Competition Held in Coimbatore

A national-level Silambam competition organized by the Silambam Association of India was held at Don Bosco School in Coimbatore, drawing participants from across various states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.


Coimbatore: The Don Bosco School grounds in Coimbatore were bustling with energy as they hosted a prestigious national-level Silambam competition, organized by the Silambam Association of India. Enthusiasts of this traditional martial art form, from states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry, participated in the event, making up a total of over a thousand athletes, with a notable high participation of female competitors.



The competition featured a variety of events across different categories such as Single Stick (Otrai Kambu), Double Stick (Irattai Kambu), Acrobatic Silambam (Chithirai Silambam), Sword Play (Vaazh Veecchu), Stick Fighting (Silambu Sandai), and several others integrating twelve traditional Tamil martial arts.



Participants showcased their skills with grace and agility, impressing the audience and fellow competitors alike.



Winners were honoured with certificates registered by the Silambam Association of India, trophies, and cash prizes. Furthermore, successful competitors in the event are also provided opportunities to participate in Southeast Asian and Asian level Silambam competitions, announced by the event organizers.
