Residents of Kottur in Pollachi conducted a road blockade protesting against the local municipality's failure to provide proper water supply to their wards for the past five days.
Coimbatore: Tensions flared in Kottur near Pollachi as local residents staged a road blockade last night on the Kottur-Angalakurichi road, protesting against the failure of the municipality to provide proper drinking water distribution. Kottur, part of the municipal governance of Pollachi, is divided into 21 wards which get their water supply from the Aliyar river. The treatment and distribution are supposed to cater to all these wards.

However, residents claim there has been no water supply to wards 6, 8, 10, and 12 for the past five days. Protestors accused the municipality of selective water distribution, alleging that while some wards receive daily supplies, their wards have been neglected.

Following the protest, Kottur Police intervened and negotiated with the protestors, promising immediate action to rectify the water supply issue.

The disturbance caused traffic disruptions for about half an hour as the public dispersed following the assurance.
With local governance failures affecting daily life, such incidents highlight the community's dependency on consistent and equitable public utilities.
