Local Residents Demand Action Against Dyeing Units Polluting Noyyal River

Residents near Noyyal River, affected by waste from dyeing units in Pattanam Anaicut and Sunnambu Kalvai Anaicut regions, demand urgent action amid frequent pollution incidents.

Coimbatore: Noyyal River, originating from the Western Ghats and crossing through Tirupur and Erode districts to join the Kaveri River, is a vital water source for farmers and locals in these regions. Recently, the river has been continually polluted by effluents from dyeing factories, particularly around the Sunnambu Kalvai Anaicut.

Locals from the area report that following heavy rainfall in recent days, including as recently as May 15, effluents have increasingly foamed over the river’s surface, visibly affecting the Pattanam Anaicut and Sunnambu Kalvai Anaicut areas. The community urgently demands that the municipal management and the Pollution Control Board take effective measures to stop this recurring pollution.

As environmental concerns grow, the residents, visibly distressed by the repeated pollution incidents, filed a plea on May 16 for proactive intervention.
