Awareness Campaign by Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu to Combat Water Scarcity During Summer in Coimbatore

In Coimbatore, Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu have initiated awareness campaigns to promote rainwater harvesting and upkeep of ponds amid severe heat and water scarcity in summer.

Coimbatore:

As summer peaks in Coimbatore, Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu are focusing on sustainable water management by advocating for rainwater conservation during the monsoon season. Tamil Nadu experiences fluctuating weather patterns, but this year's summer has seen unprecedented heat and water scarcity, leading to dire shortages in multiple localities.

Amid these conditions, the organizations strive to educate residents on the crucial practice of maintaining water bodies. They have actively cleaned and maintained ponds and small tanks across the region, ensuring water production locally.

Last week, in the Vellalore area of approximately 2.5 acres, a pond was rejuvenated over two days of painstaking effort, marked by unexpected rains that helped refill the long-dried pond, showcasing the possibilities of consistent efforts. The groups emphasize the installation of rainwater harvesting tanks in homes during the monsoon to prevent summer water deficits, additionally publishing visuals post clean-up to raise community awareness of water conservation practices.
