Disaster Response Team of 30 Deployed in Coimbatore’s Anaimalai and Mettupalayam due to Orange Alert for Heavy Rain

In response to an Orange alert for potential heavy rains, a 30-member Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force is stationed at Mettupalayam, Coimbatore District, ready to manage emergencies and rescue operations.


Coimbatore: The Chennai Meteorological Center has issued an Orange alert in Coimbatore predicting heavy rainfall. In accordance, the Tamil Nadu government has announced the deployment of a Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force comprising 30 members.



They are currently stationed at Mettupalayam and are in a ready state to tackle any emergency arising from the expected downpour.

The team, led by Deputy Inspector Sridhar, is accommodated at the local police station premises in Mettupalayam. 10 members have already been dispatched to Anaimalai to attend to any immediate rescue operations due to flooding.



The team is equipped with rubber boats, life buoys, life jackets, and has access to 43 different types of equipment including modern motors, generators, and power saws to cut down trees that may obstruct paths due to the flooding.



Additionally, they are trained to safely rescue individuals using rubber boats and ropes, and clear fallen trees across roads in mountain paths of Ooty and Kotagiri due to landslides. This is part of their effort to restore transportation and retrieve people trapped under debris from collapsed buildings.

For further assistance related to rain-affected areas, the Disaster Management helpline number 1077 has been activated for public use.
