Girl burnt alive by her parents for refusing to give up love affair: her parents and lover arrested

THANJAVUR: Police arrested the parents and lover of a girl near Thanjavur on the charge of murdering her by setting her ablaze.

The 17-year-old Nancy, daughter of John Philip and resident of Anthoniyar Koil street in Nedungulam village in Budalur taluk was studying Plus One in a private higher secondary school in Ponmalaipatti in Tiruchy district.

On the night of April 2, Nancy was found dead and her charred body was recovered from the backyard of her house. Her father John Philip, in his complaint, claimed that Nancy committed suicide by immolating herself unable to bear stomach ache. Police sent her body to Thanjavur medical college hospital for inquest.

Budalur police registered a case of suspicious death and conducted enquiry with her parents John Philip and Arogyamary.

Upon interrogation, it was discovered that Nancy was in love with Suresh Kumar (28) of the same area. Her parents strongly opposed to her love affair with Suresh Kumar and forced her to give it up. As she refused to give it up, her parents became angry, beat her and set her ablaze.
