Car Driver Impersonating a Tahsildar Arrested for Fraud in Coimbatore

A car driver in Coimbatore was arrested for defrauding a local resident by posing as a special Tahsildar from Madurai and promising government jobs, taking an advance of Rs. 25,000 for a municipal job.

Coimbatore: A fraudulent scheme involving a car driver impersonating a government official has been unearthed in Coimbatore. Shakthivel, residing at Periyanayakanpalayam, Tank Road, was approached by a man named Jesuraja on May 7. Jesuraja introduced himself as a special Tahsildar from Madurai and promised to secure a job for Shakthivel’s wife in the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation in exchange for a bribe. Trusting his word, Shakthivel handed over Rs. 25,000 as an initial advance.

Continuing his deceit, Jesuraja returned on May 27 to collect an additional Rs. 2 lakhs. Shakthivel, growing suspicious of Jesuraja’s actions, asked for identification, which led to Jesuraja threatening him and escaping the scene. After registering a complaint at the Periyanayakanpalayam police station, officers Inspector Rajeshkannan, Sub-Inspector Sivakumar, and Special Unit officer Vijayakumar apprehended Jesuraja during a traffic stop near Shanthi Medu. Upon interrogation, it was revealed that Jesuraja, a resident of Shanthi Medu, Lakshmipuram, had been falsely claiming his position and had previously defraunted another local, Mukilan, by promising a job at the Tahsildar's office and from yet another resident, Premkumar, promising a job at the Collector's office, collecting a total sum of Rs. 16.25 lakhs.

In light of these findings, Jesuraja has been arrested, and further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of his fraudulent activities. He has been remanded to custody and awaits trial.
