DMK executives met at the Coimbatore district office on Cross Cut Road, Vadakovai, to discuss arrangements for the upcoming centenary festival of leader Kalaignar on June 3, 2024.
Coimbatore: The executive committee of the Coimbatore city DMK gathered at the DMK district office on Cross Cut Road, Vadakovai, yesterday, May 27, under the chairmanship of Na. Karthik, ex MLA. The meeting was convened in anticipation of the centenary festival honoring the late leader Kalaignar, set to be held on June 3, 2024.

The assembly unanimously passed resolutions to intensify efforts for the successful conduct of the festival, paying homage to Kalaignar as 'Muthamizh Arignar' and highlighting his pivotal role in resisting Hindi imposition in Tamil Nadu since 1937. His powerful rhetoric and policies have always resonated deeply with the Tamil community.

The discussions covered a wide range of topics including the enhancement of Tamil culture, language, and traditions, all focal points of Kalaignar’s lifetime work. Various achievements during his governance such as the introduction of women's property rights, reservation policies, free color TV scheme, and the landmark initiative of 50% reservation for women in local governance were reiterated during the meeting.

His contributions to Tamil Nadu’s development through diverse welfare schemes such as the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme, Free Bicycle Rickshaws for Rickshaw Pullers, and the Anjugam Ammaiyar Memorial Mixed Marriage Scheme were highlighted.
