Manikandan, a resident of Ramanathapuram has alleged that post the closure of 153 Tasmac shops in Coimbatore, new Tasmacs are popping up at several residential areas in the city. And, that when the issue was escalated to the District Collector, his reply was 'unfitting', the petitioner claims.

The petitioner along with few other public wore liquor bottles as a garland and poured liquor on the streets and showed their condemnation against opening new tasmacs in the city.

Only two tasmacs, the one at Sowripalayam and Udayampalayam (near fun mall) is functioning in our area. In the recent time, we note that secretively steps to open new tasmacs in several residential areas in Ramanathapuram is on at full swing'.

The petitioner has also alleged that, 'When the same was escalated to the Collector, we were shocked by his reply which said 'Request for basic amenities will not be full-filled if new Tasmacs are not opened. His 'unfitting' reply has made us wonder if it was said by a politician'.
The public and the petitioner have urged that the concerned officials should initiate immediate steps to ensure that new tasmacs are not opened in residential areas as it would affect the welfare of the public, especially women and children.

Even yesterday, on Mahavir Jayanthi, despite the ban on liquor, several people were involved in selling liquor in black for higher price. The issue was escalated to the Police but however no action was taken.
Tense situation prevailed in the Collectorate for a brief time, as the petitioners poured liquor on the streets and alleged the officials for being tight lipped about the issue.
