Two Arrested in Coimbatore for Possession and Sale of Ganja

Two individuals were arrested in Coimbatore for possessing and intending to sell large quantities of ganja. Actions were taken under the Goondas Act by local police.

Coimbatore: In a significant crackdown on narcotics in Coimbatore, local law enforcement arrested two individuals from Kerala and Tamil Nadu for possessing substantial quantities of ganja. Murugan, a 69-year-old from Kerala, was apprehended by the Thadagam police with 12 kilograms of ganja. Simultaneously, Rajendra Prasad, a 64-year-old local, was caught with 11 kilograms by Madukkarai police.

Both arrests were made following reports of ganja being sold in the respective areas. Taking into account the public order and health risks associated with such activities, the local Crime Branch recommended stringent actions under the Goondas Act. Based on these recommendations, District Police Superintendent Badrinarayanan and District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati ordered detentions under the same act.

As a result, both individuals were placed under preventive detention as of May 31, to curb the illegal narcotics trade in the region. This action emphasizes the continued efforts by Coimbatore authorities to maintain law and order and public health safety.
